A quick and succinct update on my professional life….
As you can tell from a few of the post regarding my Dad and his Company, I have a pretty special Dad.
I can never fill his shoes and blow people socks off like he does, but I’m trying to build a sleek professional style that is all my own.
Anyhow, I have been following the boss aka my dad around, experiencing first hand how the design and renovation world works….
SO, My LUCK surprisingly has been exceptionally good and exceptionally bad- WHY???

Very soon after I decided to learn the family trade, I had an offer to quote for a prospective job. It would have pulled through, if only the price was lower but I was glad this particular offer didn’t materialize. Firstly, we don’t lower the price because we do not ever compromise quality. The company’s craftsmanship and interior work is really solid and even after many many years, the wood work will be in great shape and would have aged beautifully. You truly pay for what you get and at our company, the longevity and beauty justifies the price.
The second reason about why I am slightly relieved about the lost deal is that family isn’t easy to deal with. My Dad has gone through the exact same predicament and he did dispense this nugget of wisdom with regards to a lost deal from family:
” If you want to work for your family, be prepared to lose that relative or kin and whatever niceness that used to prevail before….”
It was pretty exaggerated but he was trying to comfort me by letting me know that even if I had earned that money, it would have been at the expense of ruining a relationship.

Recently, I have been at the shop undergoing some mentorship from a senior design consultant. With guidance, I somehow managed to get 2 prospects. Let me tell you that one of this particular deal was 99% done. But due to some unforeseen and strange circumstance, it didn’t close.
I am not bitter because I know the worth of the company, the craftsmen, the products and services and with time to come, this company will be a brand to be reckoned with.
As some of you may know, I used to work in the government sector. This jump into the merciless land of consumers is daunting. I have had exceptional luck drawing customers in, only to be rejected for cheaper sources. Work is never easy…. especially in turbulent times like these. CHIN UP! Business is Business
